The Chemotherapy Day Care Unit at RRSH allows patients to receive chemotherapy infusions and return home the same day, avoiding hospital admission. The unit is staffed by trained oncology nurses who administer chemotherapy under oncologist supervision. Chemotherapy is administered in cycles — typically every 3 weeks — and the number of cycles is planned by the oncology team based on the cancer type and treatment goal. RRSH performed 2,275 chemotherapy sessions in 2025–26.
Cancer patients prescribed systemic chemotherapy by the oncologist — for curative treatment, adjuvant (post-surgery) therapy, or palliative management. Available for all cancer types treated at RRSH.
Arrive at the Day Care Unit on the scheduled day. Nurses check your vitals and blood counts before starting. A drip line (IV cannula) is inserted and the chemotherapy drug is infused over 30 minutes to several hours depending on the protocol. You are monitored throughout. Bring a family member to accompany you home — do not drive after a session.
Blood count check (CBC) is required 2–3 days before each cycle — confirm with your oncologist. Eat a light meal before the session. Bring all previous chemotherapy records, blood reports, and the current treatment chart.
Chemotherapy covered under MJPJAY Scheme Code M1 (Medical Oncology). All eligible patients treated at no cost.
Submit an appointment request and hospital staff will contact you within 24–48 hours on working days.
