CT (Computed Tomography) scan uses X-rays and computer processing to produce detailed cross-sectional images of the body's internal organs, bones, and blood vessels. RRSH performed 12,906 CT scans in 2025–26. The facility is located on the First Floor and handles a wide range of indications including trauma assessment, cancer staging, stroke diagnosis, and abdominal investigations.
Patients referred for evaluation of head injury, stroke, internal bleeding, abdominal pain, cancer staging, lung disease, or any condition requiring detailed internal imaging beyond what X-ray provides.
You will lie on a motorised table that moves through a large ring-shaped scanner. The scan itself takes 5–15 minutes. You may be asked to hold your breath briefly. For contrast scans, an iodine dye is injected through a vein — inform the team if you have kidney disease, diabetes, or iodine allergy.
For abdomen/pelvis CT: fast for 4 hours. For contrast scans: bring recent kidney function report (creatinine). Wear loose clothing. Remove jewellery and metal items.
