The Neurosurgery unit performs complex brain and spinal surgical procedures including brain tumour resections, VP shunt placements for hydrocephalus, decompressive surgeries for spinal cord compression, and cochlear implantation. With 1,120 surgeries in 2025–26, RRSH's neurosurgery programme has grown more than 25-fold since 2023–24. The team has performed three cochlear implants — the first ever in Maharashtra's Public Health Department.
Patients with brain tumours, hydrocephalus, disc prolapse causing nerve compression, traumatic brain injuries, skull base abnormalities, or profound hearing loss not responding to hearing aids.
All neurosurgery is performed under general anaesthesia following comprehensive pre-operative evaluation. Recovery depends on the procedure — day surgery for minor spinal procedures to 7–14 days for complex brain surgery. Neurological rehabilitation support is available.
Neurosurgical procedures covered under MJPJAY Scheme Code S10.
