The Oncosurgery unit at RRSH provides surgical treatment for solid tumours across head & neck, gastrointestinal, gynaecological, soft tissue, and thyroid cancers. With 3,091 surgeries in 2025–26 — a 220% increase from the previous year — it is one of the most rapidly growing oncosurgery programmes in public-sector Maharashtra. Notable cases include a 24-kg ovarian mass excision and rare fibrosarcoma surgery.
Patients with operable solid tumours recommended for surgical resection by the oncology multi-disciplinary team. Surgery may be the primary treatment, or combined with chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Pre-surgical evaluation includes blood tests, imaging, anaesthesia assessment, and team review. Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia. Hospital stay typically ranges from 3–10 days depending on the procedure. Post-operative care and histopathology review follows.
Covered under MJPJAY Scheme Code S11 (Surgical Oncology). Gynaecological and paediatric cancers under separate codes.
