The Paediatric Surgery OPD is the highest-surgical-volume department at RRSH — 5,182 surgeries in 2025–26. The clinic handles complex neonatal surgical emergencies, congenital anomalies, paediatric tumours, and routine surgical conditions in children. The NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) is integrated for post-surgical newborn care. The department handles conditions rarely manageable outside tertiary centres.
Newborns and children requiring surgical assessment: intestinal obstruction, hernia, undescended testes, congenital heart defects referred for paediatric evaluation, paediatric abdominal masses, or conditions present from birth requiring correction.
A paediatric surgical consultation with the child and caregiver. The surgeon reviews all investigations and examines the child. For newborns, admission to NICU may follow directly after assessment.
Bring the child's birth records, discharge summary if previously admitted, growth charts, and all imaging reports. For newborns, bring the mother's antenatal scan reports.
Paediatric surgery under Scheme Code S8. Paediatric cancers under S21.
