The Paediatric Surgery & NICU department is RRSH's highest-volume surgical unit, performing 5,182 operations in 2025–26. The department manages neonatal surgical emergencies — intestinal atresia, tracheoesophageal fistula, anorectal malformations — alongside paediatric solid tumour surgery, hydrocephalus operations, and complex congenital anomaly corrections. The integrated NICU provides post-operative intensive care for newborns.
Children and newborns requiring surgery for congenital conditions (present from birth), paediatric tumours, intestinal emergencies, hernias, undescended testes, and conditions that cannot wait for adult surgical services.
Urgent neonatal cases are admitted directly through the Emergency department. Elective procedures involve pre-admission evaluation and parent counselling. Surgery under paediatric general anaesthesia. NICU admission follows for complex neonatal cases.
Paediatric surgery under MJPJAY Scheme Code S8. Paediatric cancers under S21.
